Re: Some Qs for the Memory timing monkeys

That is an epic post to immortalize the early days of PC gaming. I especially loved the intermission! Little did Drake know he was in the presence of two autoexec Zen masters that had reached a new plane of himem enlightenment. We sure learned a lot about the inter-workings of the x86 architecture b...

Re: PC Specs & Upgrade thread

Nice PC Ender! I'd like to join you in the AMD club again soon. As of now I'm rocking twinsies with J3RK on an I7-4790K, which is probably my favorite computer I've ever owned. Even with a GTX770 it still plays pretty much anything I attempt to play these days, which isn't much (as you all pretty mu...

Re: Some Qs for the Memory timing monkeys

Very interesting. Unfortunately it appears it's by design. https://community.amd.com/thread/242205 "This is an expected result. Client workloads do very little pure writing, so the CCD/IOD link is 32B/cycle while reading and 16B/cycle for writing. This allowed us to save power and area inside the pa...

Re: Forum Feature: Cell phones through the eras

Place holder for Kevin's cell phone archives. This thread has conjured some fun memories. Said car phone still exists! I used it after J3rk got his first "mobile" phone, and I found it a few months ago in a box in my parents garage (with a 40MB RLE HDD from my old 286). I'd definitely like to mentio...

Re: The OFFICIAL Emulation / Simulation / FPGA / Pi Thread!

The way I understand it, and maybe J3rk can elaborate, is that the FGPA MiSTer is emulating the game system via hardware, vs software emulation which you would find on your windows pc. The hardware emulator is therefore more efficient and you get a truer experience. The con is that it's expensive. A...

Re: The OFFICIAL Emulation / Simulation / FPGA / Pi Thread!

Yes, Ironsword, a true classic. Yes, I don't believe I've ever finished that one, however I do agree we got close together. I owned the actual cart, so we may have even played it on actual hardware too! Might try to see what I could do with savestates. I'll definitely need something to equalize age ...

Soulcalibur actually plays almost perfect on the Pi 4 + too! I forgot how much I love this game!

I also love me some Wizards and Warriors. Gonna have to play me that next, too.

Re: The OFFICIAL Emulation / Simulation / FPGA / Pi Thread!

Nice, glad to see this thread! Go School! goschool.jpg So I'm definitely having trouble with arcade emulation. I tried to put a few arcade roms on the Lakka, but it failed to match anything in the rom database for the scan. At first I thought it was due to the age of my 2008 [J3RK's EMU Folder]TM, b...

Re: Life Under Lockdown: What are you playing?

Re: Lakka. I had it running on my 2013 Zotac Z-Box but it didn't run very well. I've heard that all the devs are optimize for ARM/Pi and x86 doesn't get much love. I switched to Pi 4+ and it's much faster. Still a bit rough (you have to pair bluetooth controllers over SSH), but it's getting better e...

I've actually been messing around with Lakka, an all in one emulation package. I'm currently playing Tony Haw...

The bug report thread.

Maybe we should list all the bugs we find here? Seems like there is an issue with Safari iOS and the apostrophe. I’m thinking I’ve narrowed it down to that at least “I think” so. It’s inserting smart / typographers / curly quotes instead of straight quotes Chrome for iOS too... 45B1D7E5-D885-4B64-89...
