Go Comcast...

Post by R3C »

Weeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee!!!

They just bumped up the downstream by 2Mb. :D So that, I believe, puts it at around 6Mb down. Still only 384Kb up though.

I got an email saying that they increased the speed by 2Mb and that it was a free upgrade. The email said to unplug the cable modem for a bit, then plug it back in. What kind of modem do you have? I've got one of those Terayon (sp?) ones. It seems to be faster. I haven't actually confirmed it though. (too lazy) What do you use for speed tests? I suppose I could use Newsbin and see what transfer rates I get...

Ah the Terayon, TJ family of cable modems... nice. It's no Motorola, but not too bad of a modem none the less.

To reset a modems config file, unplug the modem for 3 minutes, then plug it back in. You should be gravy.

I unplugged mine for about a minute. Perhaps I should do it again just in case. I haven't really checked to see if it made any difference.

Well it should be fine, they should have sent a message to the modem to tell it it needs a new config file, to get the increase. We had a few modems that didnt get the message when we boosted the speed, and needed to be manually reset.

Do a speed test, and reset for 3m if youre not getting the full blast.

I got from 3.6Mb to 8.0mb with most of the tests I tried being in the 5.3Mb-5.8Mb range...
