Anyone heard this band??? They just released a new album titled:
De-loused in the Comatorium. PHENOMONAL new band that hits so many peaks it's almost too much to listen to! I can't say enough about how much this band is changing MY thoughts on the music of our time .. they've entirely blown my mind.
The reviews are HUGE for this band and in my opinion this will be a new face for rock as we know it. Here's some excerpts from the early reviews I've found on "De-loused in the Comatorium:"
"De-Loused In The Comatorium consists of eight continually shifting tracks which variously recall Led Zeppelin, Fugazi, Jane’s Addiction, Can, Santana, Spirit, ‘70s Miles Davis, ambient Dub… and even At The Drive-In, very occasionally. It’s unapologetically progressive music: unencumbered by genre, unafraid of seriousness, reverberating with new ideas at every turn."
dot Music
This is not an album to listen to casually. It insists on taking over your life for an hour, demands a level of concentration rare in rock, amply repays multiple plays.
Q Magazine
An audacious, bold and provocative artistic statement, an album that raises the bar for any rock band who aspire to re-writing the rulebook. [Aug 2003, p.101]
Alternative Press
Like all great albums, De-Loused in the Comatorium takes multiple listens to absorb, and, even then, you're probably not going to have a clue to what Bixler's raving about. [Jul 2003, p.107]
Spin
This is a record that creates tension from the cryptic and release from the inexplicable. [Jul 2003, p.105]
Blender
Roars like Led Zeppelin, churns like King Crimson and throbs like early Santana. [#17, p.138]
PopMatters
Contrary to nearly every other band in music today, the Mars Volta suffer from an abundance of ideas and concepts, not a lack thereof.
Playlouder
There are moments of prog rock, jazz fusion and freakydelia in this rush of ideas and if that sounds awful then don't be put off. Instead of the shambolic mess that this kinda influence normally entails Mars Volta have come strictly disciplined.
The Onion
Any out-of-context passage of The Mars Volta's debut full-length De-Loused In The Comatorium would likely sound shrill and pretentious to even the most adventurous rock fan, but taken as a piece, the record's free-flowing synthesis of Santana, Yes, and Metallica is overwhelming in a good way.
CHECK EM OUT!!

Right on man. I have been meaning to check thses guys out. This is the singer and guitarist (Cedric Bixler & Omar Rodriguez) from At The Drive-In, a personal favorite band of mine for a while.
I'll check out the album for sure. BTW - had you posted this a couple days ago, our friends in Japan could have caught them this weekend.

Ahhhhhhh damn .. I wish I would've now! Could've got a show review ..
They sold out the showbox last week I believe and I heard they are untouchable live. They are still very new so I'm sure we'll get another chance for live show in the near future . . I'll keep ya posted.
And yes, this is a conglamoration of a few different bands .. including two members of At The Drive In.
