Hmmmm. I have never heard of Bonzai, but I have been to the owner's other restaurant Wasabi Bistro which is a cool place with really nice atmosphere and some pretty tasty sushi rolls....if you don't mind paying $5 for one freakin piece of tako!!
I am not surprised people are protesting, altough I think that is one rally I would skip. But the real question is, if naked sushi has hit the shores of America...can pantsless shabu-shabu be far behind?

I live by the Wasabi Bistro and we locals call is the "Pretentiousness Bistro."
What a crap excuse of a place for people to sit around eating expensive food in front of bums while noting with scornful grimaces anyone who happens to walk by without a stitch of Prada on their person.
I'm not against eating off naked women, actually happens to be a hobby of mine, but I won't be visiting anyplace associated with the Bistro.
That place sux as much azz as the Bada Lounge
This emoticon looks like it is suckin' eh?

Seattle will NEVER...
... relax, and I'll tell you why. They are happy to be fairly unique among the "larger" cities, but at the same time they wish they were more like the actual larger cities. Eveyone is addicted to caffeine, there are no mass-transit systems, 95.9% of people don't know how to drive here, and all of this adds up to a truly confused, scattered, hyper, and somewhat fearful populace.
And then there are those few that do know how to drive, don't pay any attention to what goes on in this city, and drink green tea instead of coffee...

Hoo-ah-yabble-yah! What the hell is up with that???? Why can't the folks in Seattle drive worth a shit? Is it because they all came here from California? Is it because the highway/road system is so fooooked?
Did you know there is a SIX WAY intersection downtown?
There are off-ramps that go nowhere, some just drop off into the water!
What is up with Seattle's driving woes? Does anyone know the truth?
I've been told there is a large colony of ass goblins living underground in Seattle who screw with traffic..... it's believable because I've never seen a Jackalope in Seattle and we all know how much ass goblins like to munch Jackalope azz....if you don't know what a Jackalope is:
Caution: if you see a Jackalope in this stance you should run! This is the "warrior stance" the Jackalope will assume before dining on your zippers, watches and any other metal you might have on your person.

I love the...
... offramps that lead to nowhere. We used to have more and better offramps to nowhere though. Like the ones near the I5-I90 intersection that curved up into the air and ended. Excellent planning. [TEE HEE HEE] Those are just for the fearful, hyper, confused Seattle people who just can't take it anymore

It's my belief...
that the majority of issues stem from traffic...hense that excessive amounts of coffee drinking. And smoking in some cases. Not knocking Californians, but seriously..if you're going to move to a state that is notorious for having incliment weather..LEARN TO FUCKING DRIVE IN THE RAIN! That's just one of my thoughts on the matter.
I also think that the state of mind most people have may be brought on by the fact that our economy is rather grand, in comparison to states East of here, so we have a higher understanding of being "stuck-up" as it were. Also living in one of the highest taxed counties....hmmm, King, may also play a part in why people seem so pissed off. Again, just another of my thoughts....Anyone care to expand on this?

(As I type, I expand). This taxation linked to pissed off theory is good.
I get pissed off just thinking about having to pay an extra $100 to have a car in Seattle to pay for the monorail that was voted down twice before narrowly passing on a third vote that goes from nowhere to nowhere (seriously, when was the last time you were in Fremont or West Seattle?)
I'm pissed that the baseball stadium was built after being voted down twice and recieves about $100 million in tax breaks per year (citizens got it covered!) and the Kingdome was torn down even though it wasn't even paid off yet. The Port o Seattle gets $250+ million in tax breaks (again, citizens got that tab too), and Boeing has never paid for an ounce of their jetfuel since they've been in Washington (citizens again please stand up).

When I am in Seattle I go to both Fremont and W. Seattle quite frequently. And who cares if something was voted down, revised, and then passed (it actually passed twice btw). And even more, who cares if it passed by a narrow margin. That is called democracy. Just how narrow was the margin?
Seattle is in desperate need of some kind of mass transit system and the a monorail is a step in the right direction. I think you are confusing the issue with that of the sound transit light rail which was voted down more times than not, and has only continued vastly over budget because it is backed by the right big businesses and politicians.
Also, the green line doesn't stop at Fremont. It goes all the way to Ballard, linking Ballard, Fremont, Wallingford, Queen Anne, and W.Seattle with downtown (and dare I say, Belltown). Plans are for subsequent lines to connect more parts of Seattle, and hopefully eventually the eastside.
Opponents point to these figures that say that it won't decrease traffic congestion. That is not the point! It is about having an alternative. I don't care if traffic is still bad when I am whizzing over it. If you live in Seattle or the surrounding areas, you have to have a car. Sure you can get by, especially if you live downtown and don't need to go too far, but what a pain in the ass. Try living in a city (like Tokyo) with a great mass transit system. It is a whole nother world. Never worrying about drinking and driving, finding a parking spot, traffic jams...just jump on the train.
Sure the problem won't be fixed overnight. The green line won't even be operational until 2010, and if (that's a big if) things are rolling it'll still be another few decades until a real transportation system allows Seattlites to consider going carless (how are you gonna get to the mtns?) - but the green line is BY FAR the biggest step Seattle has taken towards an alternative and I say right on!!

Come on now. Did you get suckered by that glitzy $500K+ propaganda machine of the Elevated Train Co?
Ask yourself this: Are the traffic probs of Seattle really caused by hordes of people trying to get from Fremont to Seattle or W.Seattle to Downtown?
The real answer is no. The traffic congestion is from the Eastside into downtown and between downtown and Boeing and the airport. I used to live in West Seattle. Even in bad traffic it took only 15 min. max to get down town...a monorail isn't going to help that commute or the one from Fremont. Maybe you go to those places a lot when your in town, but your usually coming from the Eastside. The vote only passed by 863 votes and they are already having trouble with the revenue streams. Looks like another loser transit idea for Seattle so far, but I hope I'm wrong....

No, the green line won't solve the east-west problem - but it is a step towards a region wide system. It had to start in Seattle to get the funding. There is no way as ambitious of a project as that would have paseed a King County wide vote. But once the green line is up and running and people get a taste of what it is like to have an alternative there is a better chance it will be able to be expanded.
What is this "glitzy propaganda machine" talk? You make it sound like some big corporate scheme. The ETC is made up of grass roots organizers that have put in a ton of work for little pay toget this thing going. It isn't surprising there are revenue stream issues. Just like any project that has to solicit funds from both public and private sources, there is going to be a period of rough sailing. This thing is just starting to get off the ground. Give it a chance.
Barbie roll
Wow, I thought the East Coast had cornered the market on stress, but looks like you've got plenty there. Maybe you should all calmly discuss this public transportation issue over a nice plate of naked sushi (more affordably priced):
Hmmm...
I kinda like the Bada Lounge. Yes it's pretentious, but what other clubs can you go to in Seattle that aren't dingy, smoky, rotten old places that someone threw a sound system into and called a "club" My only real problem with the place is the crappy music that they usually play. Not a bad place to go and sip champagne with the ladies though. There are not enough nice places here. The Baltic Room is okay, but it is too small. I actually really don't go out anymore anyway. I only like to drop in to a classy bar once in a while and have a glass of wine, or a Martini. It's really the Seattle part that makes these places pretentious. There's nothing wrong with a classy establishment. It's the people that go there that cause the... ummm... issues...
As far as...
... Bonzai is concerned, I have a couple friends that spin down there. Other than that, I don't know much about it.
I'm just super-efficient, that's all
Bring it on, Ocean. Blackmail, schmacksmail.
I don't work hard, I work efficiently, leaving myself ample time to keep in tune with the events of the world.

That pic made me hungry for sushi.
The monorail plan as proposed sux azz and is already losing money
I am trying to put stress into pill form, something to keep me more level between midterms and finals.
The burned out slime bars are almost always the best ....what was the name of a certain karee-o-kee bar in Redmond? Palmetto, Palmolive, Palmtree....

And is already losing money? Just how do you expect a non existent monorail to bring in revenue? I am sure there are some problems with the plan as it stands now, but it isn't anything that can't be ironed out in the process. This is an evolving project that could potentially give Seattle the mass transit system that can actually compare to other cities around the globe. Time will tell.

The monorail has office rents, boardmembers who recieve pay, administrators and office sculks who get paid. They employ lawyers and insurance agents to work out their contracts. They have to pay the ETC to develop the plans, they have to pay for lobbyists to Olympia, they have to pay for tons of reports (environmental impacts, economic forcasts) and etc, etc, etc....
This stuff was all been pre-planned and was part of the package. The revenue streams that were forcast (the budget money to be plucked from taxpayers) are already coming up short. This means that they are already overspending or underestimated how much Seattlites can afford to pay. This thing hasn't even been around a year yet and is already outgrowing its FAT budget. Hmmmm....makes me nervous, that's all. Where is the money going to come from to make up for the loss of expected budget? Well, public services probably. The other night on the local news there was a story about money formerly tagged for road repairs being rerouted to Monorail. Potholes galore!
J3RK! wasn't the last time I saw you at kind of a slime bar?
