Japan snowboarding trip - weekend of Feb 21-22

Post by enderzero »

Image

So the weekend of the 21st and 22nd will be my only chance to snowboard with everyone I haven't ridden with this season. I am heading to Colorado the 29th and then shipping my gear back to Seattle from there when I head back here. So I propose we get a group together for a little action.

Some questions need to be discussed.

Where? Well, rumor has it that we can ride for free in Naeba. Is this confirmed? If so this is a huge advantage. It is also a cheaper destination from Tokyo if we shink. What is lodging like? How about that sno-decks place? What else is in the greater Yuzawa area? Nagano is an option too, and we can always do the snowbeds thing if we go to Hakuba. Nozawa/Arai might be a little far and lodging is complicated. I like the idea of South Niigata because I have never been there and it sounds like db/danz know some pretty good lines. Niigata may be more difficult for some of the people out of Kanto that I am cluing in.

How? Shinkansen should be avoided it at all possible. Is driving feasible? How does the price break down for a rental? Who has a car that wants to go?

When? I am down for cutting out of Tokyo as early as possible Friday and being able to get up and ride Sat morning. Then a fun night and up again on Sunday. If anyone was into the idea of staying for Monday as well I would be interested especially if the lift pass is free.

Who? Let's get this figured out! Who is down? I am gonna email every snowboarder or skiier I know in Japan and point them here. That way I am guaranteed to find at least one person :D. Post here and let us know if you can make it. Jaime, Dan, Eddie - it looks like this is my one chance to ride with you guys this season so let's make this happen.

yo!

something will definetly come together...good thing about naeba/kagura (yes, we do have "season passes".... :D ) is it takes minimal planning to get there....

brian (dude that has been riding with "the crew" a bit this season) and I have been tossing the idea of Nozawa or even Hatimantai forest for that weekend (hatimantai might be a stretch...but worth the thought)...

but if the snow is on, naeba will be nuts!!

so, count me in!

yo, i likes ya thinkin... i could be askin the boss for the holiday he owes me from last wednesday - to give me the sat free. wouldn't be altogether likely tho.

i'd even be up for a sunday only ride if thats all i could get...

unfortunately naeba is off the chart far from here, as the expressways don't link up nicely.

thereforely, i would only be able to join for a hakuba expedition.

keep me informed if a change of destination is poss.

Ryland man

Thanks for the holler :shades:

It's a shame brother but no can do for 21/22. I'm headed down to Nagoya for my mate's wedding that weekend. I've known him for over ten years and he's the guy that introduced my wife. He was also the priest at our wedding and has lined up a priest of similar holy credentials ( :D ) for his do. It should be a good laugh.

My season has been a so-so so far. I've been really busy with my day job, and have also been running a bar up here, so I've not had all that much time on the snow. I've ridden a lot of nice deep stuff, but have still got some way to get my fill. I've got some new toys to play on this year in the form a tele rig and an alpine snowboard. If you get the chance, try hardbooting brother. It's like riding a razor blade! You'll pick it up pretty quick. Tele looks like a long road, but with the Hakuba BC rising above me I'm sure it'll be worth it for easy outs along all those rivers.

Nick the Fattwins is heading this way, so I'd better get some work done before he comes.

Have a great weekend and a good trip.

Take it easy man

PS It wasn't you that leaked the Windows source was it?

dear big city bumpkins.

i don't think i'll be able to make your currrent hoedown.

but... i have sat march 20 off - its a national holiday.

i hear the local japanese hate going away on a national holiday, so p'raps we could organise a hakuba jaunt for that weekend. ie. mar 20/21.

so...if we are going to rent a car/van/whatever, who can do it?

candidate needs to have 1)international or japanese license 2) credit card

I have 1 but not 2...

honestly, if we dont have something worked out by wed it is pretty damn tough to get a real trip worked out...

so who is the rental bitch??

Well I am ready to make some solid plans. Sounds like we got for sures from Dan, Jaime, Brian the Yank, and Damian. Likely from Kat and Andy (powwwers). Maybe from Patrick and Sean (Y's P/Satori). probably not but maybe if we bribe and bug him from Yasu. Anyone that I missed?

I am thinking we should go to the southern Niigata area. My reasons are these:
- Mainly, we can ride for free
- Easy to get there
- I have never been there and basically this is my only chance

Where can we ride free guys? Naeba? Kagura?

So what time can everyone get off on Fri? How long does it take to drive there? If we have at least me, db, jaime, dan, and brian in the car with all of our gear... Yes I agree, we should rent a van. Yasu said renting vans isn't a problem.

Like Dan said, who is down for the dirty work?

Lodging - I posted a thread on SJ about places to stay up there. Is there a Chalet/Snowbeds of Yuzawa? A place with a cool vibe and cheap bed would be cool.

Patrick - What's your status? You thinkin of stayin till Mon? Anyone else?

Anyone dead set against Niigata?

Let's do this!

All Right! Here is the deal.

It looks like we are going to The Yuzawa/Kagura/Naeba area. Dan is working on lodging. What's everyone's status?

Leave Friday evening by shinkansen. Spend the night and ride Sat.

Stay Sat night and ride Sun.

If anyone is down for staying for Monday, let me know.

Any suggestions on where to ride. Is it best to do Kagura one day and Naeba the next or should we stick to one? Anyone know any hidden gems?

Nekobi - when you said Niigata did you mean only your neck of the woods or can you make it over here?

Sean? You gonna pull this one out?

Sorry to hear Ocean, NoFakie and Mikazooki are so "preoccupied." ;)

Andy aka Powwwers - you on here man? You gonna make it? Will you just drive over or train?

Still waiting for which nights confirmation from db and Patrick.

As far as I know Danz, Jaime, Brian the Yank, and myself are in fo sho.

(yikes - what a jumbled post)

I have something really critical for work on Monday which may force me to miss this outing. :grind: I'm still up in the air though, so you can just count me out of Snowjob's lodging plans.

I'm still going to try to make it up for Sunday daytime via early mohnin' shinky-dink. whoooo whoooooooo!

Santa House 025-789-4841
Fukuda Ya 025-789-2011
Anex Kashiwa Ya 025-789-2031

My status for Sunday boarding will be up in the air until Friday evening...at least. It may end up being a gameday decision, depending on work.

i will cruise on over sat. evening/night. not quite sure what time i will b arriving, bcos i`m goin riding on satdi. haven`t decided where yet, so i wont know how long it`ll take to reach you guys.

what to do about accomm? do i need to book a bed for sat night? if i arrive late, i`ll just crash in me car. the only reason i`ll arrive late though is if i get lost or road conditions suk! maybe i should just wait `til i arrive and decide then. what do ya rekon?
:uhh: sorry i can`t be more decisive, but it`s kinda difficult to work out at such short notice. one things for sure, lookin forward to ridin with everyone!

powwwers is really called 'Nigel'? Gosh, that's nearly as uncool as my real name... :shifty:

Sean, I just bought me a Y100,000 rowing machine so slotties are more the problem at the moment than time.

But I still hold out some hope, and I'll buzz ya for sure if I go.

My rowing machine would go like shit off a stick down a nice icy groomer...

Woywoy is Nigel I believe, but I haven't met him.

Sean - next year man :shades:

Andy (and others) - Here's the deal. We are booked Sat. night at the Santa House - 025-789-2041. We are paying 3000 a night. Sorry but didn't book you a room as I wasn't able to get on my server. Try giving them a call.

We are shinking up early Sat. Plan is to meet up at Naeba between 9 an 9:30. Maybe Kagura on Sun.
