Well who the hell knew? A friend of mine, in town for just a couple days, mentioned last night that he might be able to get free passes for the Anthrax show the next night. Sure, I said. I would go see Anthrax for free...
But I forgot from earlier posts, it wasn't just Anthrax, but the Dojo tour featuring Anthrax, Killswitch Engage, Darkest Hour, and From Autumn to Ashes.
Well I figured there was liuttle to no chance of getting in since we were relying on a photographer that was a friend of a friend to get us in, but amazingly we showed up, asked for him, and 5 minutes later had entry + afterparty all access passes.
So guess what... tonight I saw Killswitch Engage. ...play one song. We were a bit late. But I did see one song and nabbed a pick and set list. I then got to watch Anthrax thrash out a set from the VIP area. And after, I got to go to pretty swanky all-you-can drink bar (for free) with the band and kicked it all night. Cool guys! Especially Joe, a dude that is just touring with them but has been playing for quite some time in different bands.
Joe
But the best part is, I am on the list for the rest of their tour. I am going to tomorrow nights show that is not only Anthrax, but
The Dillinger Escape Plan!!!!! Boooooyah!!!!! I missed out on Killswitch and From Autumn, but also playing is Burnt by the Sun and SikTh. You better believe I will be there from song one. And I may be getting my JR pass just in time to see them in Osaka (with Killswitch) and maybe Nagoya as well.
Fuckin - eh!

John
Some of you may be saying "whoopty doo." But I know at least a couple people out there that will think this is as pretty damn cool as I do.

Ender you are a jammy cunt!
Don't forget to pull your little oscar the grouch trick and dissappear into the gutter during the gig while simultaneously eating your hat and keitai. OK?
Did Anthrax play "room for one more". That song kicks.

I was by far the most sober one out of the group last night, however that isn't saying much.
If anyone wants to go tonight then email my phone. Shouldn't be any problem at all.

So day 2 was even cooler then day one, but with less being tossed out of clubs and less getting Anthrax banned for life from the Lexington Queen. But still a really good time.
I hung out for quite out for quite a bit backstage before and during the show. The scene there was so laid back. Everyone had the whole day off and had explored Tokyo so there were a lot of cool stories goin around. Since so many bands are on the tour yet only a few play each night the place was packed with dudes just hanging around. Some of the guys were really cool especially the guys in Darkest Hour and a couple dudes in Burnt By The Sun. Adam from Killswitch is so much like ed9k personality wise I felt like I already knew him. However the guys in that band had a bit of a rockstar thing goin, although Howard, the new singer, seemed a bit friendlier.
There was that scene goin on upstairs where all the young guys were hanging out and then Anthrax was chilling in their own room downstairs with their crew. I actually got along better with that scene. The guys in Anthrax are so down to earth and I had gotten to know their sound guys pretty well exploring Shibuya with them eariler in the day.
The show was cool. Dillinger definitely ripped it up. Those guys really put on a good stage show. They love to play. Anthrax was solid of course. Dims, Sparkle and Brian made it out as well and we had the same great view from the VIP section upstairs.
After the show my buddy Andy invited me to go with the band for drinks at the Park Hyatt in Shinjuku (as seen in Lost in Translation). I wasn't sure what the scene would be like but Andy assured me it would be totally cool for me to come along so I jumped in a cab with them and went. It was totally cool. Along with Andy and me it was just singer John Bush, his wife and friend, guitarist Scott Ian, and bassist Joey Vera in the NY Bar on the 52nd floor. We just sat around admiring the view and chatting over expensive drinks and cheese platters, all dressed in tshirts and jeans with mohawks, 12 inch goatees, and tattoos a-plenty. I was the only one that knew anything about Japan so they were barraging me with questions and asking me to point out landmarks from our incredible vantage point. We had a great time and took a whole bunch of pictures that I will post when I get them from Andy. It was great to be kicking it so personally with rock and roll greats and I'm sure next time I end up near an Anthrax show I'll be cathing up with them.
After we left the Hyatt Andy Joe and I went walking around Shibuya and found a little bar to drink and chat in until late. Joe is an especially cool guy and I got to know him really well. He lives in LA so we are gonna try to hang out if I end up in his neck of the woods.
Still a chance I might catch up with them somewhere else on their tour, but all in all it was an extremely cool experience getting to know these guys on their Japanese metal tour.
