July 28, 2004 - In its fiscal report today Midway Games made a pro-growth move to enter into the PC publishing market, acquiring from Epic Games the worldwide rights to publish the next three Unreal games, Unreal Tournament 2006 and Unreal Tournament 2008 -- as well as the rights to publish the exclusive Xbox game, Unreal Championship 2: The Liandri Conflict now pushed back to in Q1 2005.
Looks like no more free CD keys from atari. Seriously though, i think this will be good for both the unreal franchise and midway.

That's so July 28th.

HEE HEE HEE
I don't quite know what to think about all this. All these old companies that have been in really bad shape at one point or another are coming back as mega-corporations, with publishing and buying power. What's going on? Who's next? Williams? Leland? Bally?

I thought that williams and midway were the same company in the begining...

It appears as though they consolidated UT 2006 and 2008 and went for UT 2007
I got to see it in playable form at E3, it looks sooo good. Its just too bad that 2007 is freaking so far away!
So in the meantime i been playing Unreal Gold, man what a classic. Although the graphics are a bit dated, man does it have immersion. And Immersion, my friend is the secret to a great video game.

No, Unreal Tournament = Boring.
Unreal (the original) = Immersive and Fun.
I can actually get into UT2004 from time to time, but only for a couple days, and then it gets old. Doom 3 and Halflife 2 are tons better. The Chronicles of Riddick: Escape from Butcher Bay is even better than those. Now THAT's an immersive game Admiral, and if you still haven't played through it, you are missing out on the entirely immersive experience (that you so highly praise.)
The games that I find to be really immersive are the ones that make you feel entirely isolated and alone in some alien (or alienating) environment. (like Unreal)
Anyway Admiral, when you're done with Psychonauts, go back and play Riddick all the way through. (PC version only, or you'll miss out on several EXTREMELY FUN levels.) It actually doesn't take very long at all to play through it. (Around half the time that Psychonauts has taken me.)

Compared to Quake 3 it's totally boring.
For first person ladder play, there is still no substitute.
Oh, and...
1966
Those numbers, placed sequentially, still look the same.

Quake 3 doesnt have onslaught! Not that that makes quake 3 and less of a great game though.
Chuck, do you use the ointment?

Onslaught is ok, but last time I had it installed, there just weren't enough levels for it. I looked around, but most of the user ones sucked at the time. Perhaps there are more now. A couple of the ones that came with it were ok, like the big red planet with the giant vehicles, but iehhh...
Quake IV should remedy that though. The multi-player portion is going to be modeled on Q3A, but with vehicles. The single-player is going to be Q2 style, plus squads where necessary. Should be the perfect game. Oh happy times, it's almost done. I think, barring any usual game company screw-ups, it should be out by fall. They are showing/playing it at QuakeCon.

I saw it at E3, I also saw QuakeWars, wich is kinda battlefield esque.
As far as unreal goes, the UT:2004 Developer Edition Patch adds new onslaught levels. There is probably an "Official" bonus pack by now too, id imagine.
I should play some online onslaught today, since UT supports 1680x1050

If I think about it, maybe I'll install it when I get home, and we'll have a little MP session.

That is very cool. May be worth playing again for a little bit then. How new is that pack? I looked for one a couple months ago when I had it installed. Hmmmmmmm..... Well, I'm doing my upgrade today, so I'll give it a whirl when I'm done. I'll only have one GT today though. Not getting the second card until next week.
