I also work about a 5-10 minute walk away from #1 and #3....
This might call for a night of Zoo sometime soon...

SpidMonX: We are going down to Nijo on Saturday night. I was thinking we should get another one of those large bottles of sake. That would be my number one spot, but it doesn't really fall into the "Dive" category. Excellent sushi, excellent sake selection, music by Michael. Couldn't be a better bar/club/sushi spot. In this corner of the country anyway.

Ahh the Zoo... I clicked the link expecting to see Palmer's. Did the "now owned by our friends" thing ever work out?

Ahh the 5 Point. Actually I don't really like that place - but it did start out our drunken B-shoot experience that so generously lends its visage to the banner at page top. Ozzie's is way better than 5 Point.

I've been to Earl's my fair share as well.

Best Eastside Dive? Cheers West - AKA Denny's Bar. Kev? eh?

After this many years the Baltic Room still gets the nod for best DJs. The only other on the list I have even heard of is Bada.

Of course this is according to seattle.citysearch.com.

I love cheers west! I have yet to find a dennys bar that cool, or actually any dennys bar at all.

I have been to a lot of those bars. The ones that I have not been too are primarily the ballard ones: Ballard Smoke Shop / Hatties Hat / the tin hat. My ballard travels always brought me to the Old Peculiar, hope that is still there...

I also dont much care for the 5 point.

The Baltic Room is now called the War Room. I haven't been down there since they changed it. (or, actually since we lived at the Redmond house of justice) I guess Christ is bartending there, so I might stop in and say hello sometime.

Nijo is definitely the cool place to go listen to some music. PERFECT atmosphere. Mid-level house and funk music, really clean and somewhat fancy. The food is a little on the pricey side, but it's the absolute freshest fish of anywhere I've been to in Seattle. They don't have a ton of space because of their location, so they have the fish delivered fresh every day. (which is certain to be the reason it costs so much) Well worth it though. It's nice to have all of my favorite going-out stuff all in one place. Sushi, drinks, good music, etc. Even for each individual part, it exceeds other places. It's more fun club-wise than a club. It's a nicer restaurant than many, and the bar is top-notch.

Indeed, Thomas owns Palmer's now.

l2icks0r: Perhaps you and teh Kelz0r want to come to Nijo with us on Saturday. We're going to drink sake, eat raw fishies, and listen to some muzak. Let me know if you want to go, and I shall tell you where it is.

What time in Dec are you coming around here?

I hear Sigma Team has plans for you when you show up, so you'll want to watch yourself. :shifty:

Rixler: I've tried to call you back, but I don't know what time you generally get up these days, so you've probably been asleep or something. I think we're going to head down there around 8 or 9, so I'll try to call you later today to tell you where it is and all that. I'll put it here too, just in case.

It's called Nijo, it's in Post Alley. So if you were to go downtown, go down to around Spring (or wherever is close to Spring where you can go past 1st ave (in a westward manner) and park your car, you will find it below 1st, on Spring, in Post Alley. It's pretty simple. (it's that street that runs behind the market.

I imagine I may be around those parts for a few days around the end of Dec. My flight gets in the 22nd and then I'll have the ol fun of balancing family, snowboarding, and visitng this thread's topic #2 on teh list.

BTW - any thoughts about the last few minutes of 2005 yet?

MvNevin? What are your Holiday plans?

Hmmm... I hadn't even begun thinking about the last few minutes of 05. Good point, it's sneaking up. Well, I'm of the opinion that another round of mid-high level champagne would be a good way to go. We were able to get quite a few bottles of lovely-tasting sparkles last year. I don't believe I'm going to be able to go full-high level for another year or so. (but that is definitely in order down the line a little bit)

I guess you'll miss the Jo2Fro2 at the beginning of Dec....

As for the champagnery my house is again an option for a group of similar size to the last time...

I'm for your house. Or, if there are significantly less people, mine would work. I think I have similar overall space, but half of it is on another floor. Plus you have a better evening view. My view is only good in the daytime.

I think that all sounds reasonably appropriate. We can keep our ears to the proverbial street in case something more fantastical comes up - but barring that I would have no problem more or less repeating last years festivities.

Watch out for TEH 1337 Werd Convertar. You never know when it might rear it's ugly head.

Jo2Fro2 huh? Too bad - is he on his way to NY?

WWWWWWWWEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE!!!!

That was a successful sake night. Two of the very large bottles of Kurosawa sake, some nice fish, music, etc. We ran up quite the bill too. :D

I plan to do this every other month or so. That seems like a good interval that won't get old fast.
