Neo J3RK-W3RKZ Thread. :P

Post by R3C »

First werk:

Building this new synth. The video was just a short test, and the audio was leaking out from headphones, so not very impressive. :D I'll post something better after I wire up the last few boards.

(Hmm... It didn't embed correctly this time... Link instead for the moment.)

I know why the audio was leaking out!!! It's because your electrons are slamming into the corners and getting bruised!!!

I have to say that you have been quite prolific l0rd ])ustr0n teh synth l0rd!!!

Bruised electrons make squishier sounds.

I actually used to contour my traces more with 45 degree bends, but one day I just decided I was going to make them all square. All of my newer boards have Blocky-Trace Technology TM. Phatter, Squishier, Bruised Electrons, that's our motto. You should see what we're doing to the charm quarks.

Yeah it seems like that kind of thing wouldn't matter at all but I've heard it does several times. I would think maybe when the traces get really really small like in a CPU/GPU or something but obviously square traces work for a normal sized PCB.

Yeah, the mere audio rates that I work in, I can only see it adding minuscule “character”. At higher frequencies I could see these traces causing all-out havok!!!!

Good use of the centrally placed Red-Green Octometer.

Incredible! Aside from the genius it takes to design and assemble such devices, the aesthetics of the Stroh line are so very cool.

J3rk, I'm looking through all of your device demo and update videos on Youtube. For a layman, such as I, who is jumping into music production over the last few months - it would be awesome if you did a "walkthrough" video of one of the Stroh Modular devices and the features? Private video since I know you are adverse to that type of public thing! :)

Thanks!

As far as doing some kind of walk-through video, I think that would be cool. I need to bolster my recording and editing (video) setup in order to do it well though. (which I kind of need to do anyway, so I can stop recording with the stupid phone mic :D )

My synths are a little bit more cryptic on the panel that is typical, because I'm weird, and like to give some things my own spin on function names, abbreviations, etc. Plus some of the functions themselves are a little esoteric. I'll need to translate as I go a little bit.

I'll think about this a bit.

Also, if you're getting into music production, and specifically electronic (or even if that's a component to it) I'd recommend www.muffwiggler.com and www.elektronauts.com (good forums, with mostly friendly people, as opposed to something like gearslutz.)
