The all new HOT MUSIC thread

New to teh ed9k playlist:
The Red Chord: Clients - Whoa whoa whoa whoa whoa. Brilliant.
Opeth: Ghost Reveries - Also whoa. This is my favorite album of the year hands down. Sheer perfection.
311: Don't Tread on Me - Don't know quite what I think of this one yet. Haven't let it digest as much as maybe I could.
Other than that, Prefuse's Surrounded by Silence is keeping me feeling nice....also going back to some oldies....Skkatter (sp?), RFTC, The Posies, etc....
Not as much time to listen to music these days though. Got an A in my first class (not an easy feat I'm told), and ed21n works at night so lil' mammal doesn't have to attend teh care of day. Tough but rewarding times.
Sorry I haven't posted more.

been a bit...
My Prague soundtrack has been consistently dominated by two albums. Those are Death Cab for Cutie - Plans and Bloc Party - Silent Alarm.
I am still listening to Arcade Fire quite often.
I have been bumpin a bit more hip hop in recent weeks than average. More along the lines of Sage Francis and other underground than the trip/prog-hop of the last year. The solo album by Gift of Gab is great. Of course I am diggin Danger Doom - The Mouse and the Mask with all the adult swim samps. On the DJ side I have been putting on a random sampling of Ninja Tune mixes. The Avalanches put out some cool stuff as well.
The Go! Team - Thunder Lightning Strikes is one of those albums I dloaded a long time ago, listened to once, and then forgot about. Now it is back with a swiftness and making very regular rounds on tehpod.
I listen to a pretty random sampling of Singles from Damien Jurado, Bright Eyes (Arc of Time, Lover I Don't Have to Love), Elliott Smith, Dismemberment Plan (The City), and a bunch of other old faves.
Coheed and Cambria's new album (with an incredibly long title that we will just call IV) is their most mature stuff to date and their only album I have really enjoyed listening to every song on.
I have been pretty big into anything by Muse as a general rule.
I imagine no one has heard of the band Augustana. While a lot of their stuff is a bit puseé, the radio friendly hit Boston will surely find a wide audience.
I like The Dandy Warhols quite a bit. Their new one Odditorium is quite good, but maybe not as good as Thirteen Tales from Urban Bohemia.
If you haven't checked out Swedish band Mando Diao, they are worth a listen.
Queens of the Stone Age's latest Lullabies to Paralyze is really solid and still making itself heard regularly.
While not incredibly popular yet, bands Les Savy Fav, Le Tigre, and Aqualung have had their ratings upgraded to bands to watch.
When sitting at my PC I have lately been doing a lot of streaming. NPR member station KCRW's great live music show Morning Becomes Eclectic has a huge archive of many of the bands listed in this thread and many others worth exploring. NPR.org's All Songs Considered also has a bunch of great full concerts from all my faves, including last week's awesome D.C. show by Death Cab which I am listening to right now. These are both great places to go for more from anyone you love or if you just want to hear something new.
that's it for now - 00t!

I don't believe we've discussed Tom Vek. In the last month, I've probably listened to the album "We Have Sound" appoximately 4 times a day. Kind of the 60's meets today's indie rock. Definitely an electro-pop sound that you can dance to....in fact I'm dancing right now...in my undies(Scooby Doo Under-Roos to be exact). Steal it, own it, love it.

I have been meaning to post about how outta control the new Matisyahu album Youth is. I dug the live album but this is definitely the best contemporary reggae vibe I've ever caught.
For the best thing since Something Corporate (oh why do I bother), I can't get enuf of the band Mae and their cd The Everglow. Where did this cd come from?! It just appeared on my hdd. McNevin?? Ultra catchy pop punk perfection.
I was hoping for more from Aceyalone's new RJD2-produced Magnificent City. It is solid, but didn't blow my mind. I was pretty damn blown away by the new Little Brother The Minstrel Show. Good call Bos.
After watching the movies, I have been listenin to the soundtracks of both Walk The Line and Hustle & Flow. I like to queue up both albums and put em on shuffle.
Other than that I listen to a lot of Thievery Corp. and other downtempo chill mixes like that. Let me know if you any particularly good mixes. I particularly like the loungey-groovy mixes like Thievery's DJ Kicks and ones with a bit of a South Asian feel like The Richest Man in Babylon or Anandji Kalyanji's Bombay 2 Electric Vindaloo.
I just nabbed a bunch of new stuff off tehslsk including Head Automatica and Tom Vek. I'll report back.

My recent playlist:
Eliot Lipp - [Self-titled] (Good diplo-ish beats )
Low Budget - Grind Mode (Really well done Hip-hop mix)
Low Budget - Nuff Respect Due (Awesome hip-hop/multi-genre Mashup mix)
The Kooks - Inside In Inside Out (Straight up british pop-rock. Grows on you like a bad crack habit)
Maximo Park - A Certain Trigger (Solid brit-rock that could have been recorded in the 70s)
The Herbaliser - Fabriclive 26 (pretty good UK big-beat & hip hop mix)
Ghostface Killah - Supreme Clientele (good ol' ghost face )
Talib Kweli - Right about now: The Official Sucka Free Mix CD (Hit and miss, but worth checking out)
Ok Go - Oh No ( Its good at first, but too many listens will surely make you sick of their sound)
I'll end this post with a good buzzword....
"Dubstep"
Look for a mix to download, there are loads floating around online... good stuff.

Matisyahu (my he-bro!) put on a live show outside the hub last year...sponsered by, yup, hillel. It was actually a terrible show. They had the crappiest cheapest ass stage set up evar! But his stuff is good...I like it.
I have been digging into my reggae roots. Steel Pulse and Damian "Jr. Gong" Marley have been in circulation...
And of course, the Derek Trucks Band came out with a new album, Songlines which has been running pretty much non-stop since I picked it up

stay under the 1yen curve!
Soul Position: Things go better with RJ and Al
Blueprint and RJD2 are back together for their second album. Its good, I dont think its great. Blueprint is more front and center on this one than in unlimited...I would have rather it been the other way around, but it is definetly worth a listen

The 3|)9|< has been pumping the following as of late:
All That Remains "Fall of Ideals". Pretty much a Metalcore masterpiece if you like such things. Very brutal, very beautiful, very tasty. I highly recommend this if you haven't heard it.
Avalanches "Since I Left You". This is a really good "Found Sound" type of album from a bunch of DJ's from Australia. Rylonadon sent me a mix someone had done using this album. Really cool because you pick up on something new everytime you hear it.
Bela Fleck & Edgar Meyer "Music for Two". Banjo blaster Bela teams up with Grammy Winning Double Bassist Edgar Meyer for this disc culled from live recordings. This veers towards Classical, Jazz, and Bluegrass, and is brilliant. If you can appreciate virtuoso's at work, even if you don't like this type of music, it's well worth it to check it out.
Dane Cook "Harmful if Swallowed", anything by Stephen Lynch, great comedy.
Led Zeppelin: "How the West Was Won" If you like the mighty Zep, do yourself a favor and get this without delay. Them at their best.
The Posies: "Every Kind of Light" The boys from Seattle do it again, and like their other masterpieces, the world at large hasn't noticed it. These guys are too good.
Jeremy Enigk: "World Waits" Ok, this doesn't come out until October, but those of you who know me well know that this is a pretty big deal. Enigk's long awaited follow up to "Return of the Frog Queen" (long awaited!! it's been ten friggin' years!!!) is already sounding promising. "Dare a Smile", "River to Sea", and "World Waits" give me reason to be plenty excited. Keep in mind that the only exposure I have to these songs is from a poor quality bootleg of the 6/28/06 Neumo's show that I didn't attend because I was in my God Damned Composition class. Jeremy is playing at Bumbershoot this year, and I am hoping that my daughters are cooperative. They are supposed to be born Labor Day if my wife lasts that long. If I miss it, I will be bummed, but it won't be the end of the world. I have seen SDRE, Solo Enigk, and TFT multiple times.

AFI - December Underground (yes I actually like an AFI album, save about 3 songs)
Unearth - III: In the Eyes of Fire
Mars Volta - Amputechture
Lamb of God - Sacrement
Head Automatica - Popaganda

This doesn't appear to have been mentioned. Came across it in my travels: http://www.bassnectar.net/ I've only listened to about .325 o-it, but it's nice.
