Oh forgot to mention the booting from eSATA may actually be hardware dependent. I don't think everyone is able to do what I did but then again I don't know if people did the extra step with the startup repair but maybe they didn't run into the same problem with the GEOM error after posting.
I am running an EVGA nForce 780SLI.
The drive dock I got from Computer Stop/HDNW for $40 and is a Vantec NexStar. I got a 7200.12 ST31000528AS 1TB Barracuda for $99 from them also.
Another interesting thing is the 7200rpm Seagate is just as quiet as the 5900rpm and comparing an old 7200.10 to either a Barracuda LP or 7200.12 the old drive is noisier, slower, and runs waaaay hotter. Having the drive in a dock you can really hear what is going on.

I also use the Vantec Nexstar. (USB2/eSATA) I have a couple of them.
I've got linux on various netbooks and such around the house, so it's actually quite useful to me. I just don't need it on my main system. I'd like to build another Hack-a-Maq, so I don't need to dual boot, but I think since I can do everything in W7 that I can do on the waq-a-mac, that I can just do without it for now. I need less time tinkering, and more time playing, composing, etc. If my games ran on the Mac, then I'd have no reason to use Windows, but alas, for it is not the case. Yes, you should stop by soon, but me wife has teh sick at the moment. Perhaps mid-late week?
Edit: Tomorrow or Wednesday might work quite well actually.

D'oh - all this talk about Ext enclosures. I just bought a Rosewell cuz it got goodish reviews. Had I known everyone was so into their Vantec Nexstars I woulda gotten me one.
Need to RMA one of my 750GB 7200.11s with bad sext0rz but in the meantime I bought a 1.5TB 7200.11 which I Acronis'ed (thx to l2icks0r since I prolly woulda used Ghost if I hadn't gotten the full report - so instead I just used the Seagate Acronis tool) from my 320GB which I had temp0rarilly installed W7 onto... but now it is all good and 1.5TB'ed.
Anyway once I get my 750 7200.11 baxs0r I will have a 1.5TB 7200.11 system drive, a 750GB 7200.11 internal secondary drive, and a 750GB 7200.11 external drive. Should be enuf storage until the year 2000.
Oh and I counted all my files on all my drives and I only have 1/2 a million... so you must have a whole lotta little files there l2icks0r.

Anyone having problems with network connectivity?
I have been consistently losing my internet connection because of the default gateway becoming unreachable. This happens when I am using a lot of bandwidth from multiple sources. Does Windows 7 have that same issue where the number of open sockets is limited like XP? I think it was? Anyway, if I am using bittorrent and I browse I will lose my internet connection.

The router is fine. I can fix the problem in w7 by using the diagnose feature. I am pretty sure the source of all the problems I have been having with w7 is because of the 64-bit drivers not working properly. I have the exact same behavior with the video card drivers that I had in Vista in w7 now too where the screen dissolves into a bunch of lines and then the machine goes black and nothing happens.

To get my wireless card to work, a PCI Linksys 802.11g adapter, I have to run the generic Broadcom 64-bit drivers. Linksys only makes a single PCI G adapter, and yet they offer no 64-bit drivers. Linksys is the Creative Labs of networking, get with the program and make some 64-bit drivers people. Maybe they just abandoned G. Hopefully they have 64-bit N drivers.
I solved another issue plaguing my Windows 7 install today. Every time I tried to enable AHCI in the BIOS, windows would blue-screen when I rebooted. Since I installed with it off, windows disables any unused boot drivers. The solution was to enable the driver in the registry, reboot, enable AHCI. Now I'm able to get into windows just fine.

I'm not sure what I get. I believe it thinks the Seagates are slow though. I've always hated this test. Why should the speed of storage have that much of an impact on the score. They should take the median score instead of the lowest. They could then highlight the lowest scores in red or something to get your attention.

I have 5.9 as well for my 1GB 7200.12 Barracuda.
As far as hard drives go 7200.10s are slow, loud, and get really hot.
7200.11s are faster, quiter, and don't get as hot. 7200.12s don't get hot, are very quiet, and are one of the fastest seagate drives until they came out with that crazy 2.0GB 6.0MBs Barracuda XT.
The Barracuda LPs are actually really nice drives too even though they only spin to 5900rpm they are still quite fast. In fact I almost don't care which one I had a LP or a .12 because the performance is so close and the LPs are even quieter and run cooler than the .12s but not by much. I also would prefer the LPs over either the blue or green WD caviars.

HATE HATE HATE W7
I am getting the system to reliably hang playing movies. I have tried different codecs but it doesn't seem to matter. I have a fresh w7 install too. The only stuff that seems to reliably work is code that doesn't use drivers. My video goes to black and I just have mouse cursor. CTRL-ALT-DEL doesn't do anything. I have had hangs with windows movie player after a fresh reboot trying to play a divx movie and I cannot shut it down...it does more stuff than that but I am getting sick of dealing with all this crap. How did it get to the point of having an OS that barely works...so retarded...the only hope is maybe sometime soon the drivers will actually be stable thus making the OS stable...My Vista experience was far better than what I am going through now.

From the MSDN Blog
For those obtaining low disk scores but are otherwise satisfied with the performance, we aren’t recommending any action (Of course the WEI is not a tool to recommend hardware changes of any kind). It is entirely possible that the sequence of I/Os being issued for your common workload and applications isn’t encountering the issues we are noting. As we’ve said, the WEI is a metric but only you can apply that metric to your computing needs.
Earlier, I made note of the fact that our new levels, 6 and 7, were added to recognize the improved experiences one might have with newer hardware, particularly SSDs, graphics adapters, and multi-core processors. With respect to SSDs, the focus of the newer tests is on random I/O rates and their avoidance of the long latency issues noted above. As a note, the tests don’t specifically check to see if the underlying storage device is an SSD or not. We run them no matter the device type and any device capable of sustaining very high random I/O rates will score well.
Lame...
