Perhaps something unseated itself during a drive swap? Sounds like your case may be haunted. I've experienced a couple of haunted cases in my time. Switched out everything (and I mean EVERYTHING) but the case, and still had problems, until I ditched the case. This happened with SpidMonx' KME case, and it happened with a SuperCase, and some other one more recently. Sometimes you get a Taiwanese ghost stuck in your case from the factory, and they just won't leave you alone. The only thing to do is put the case to rest.

Another new one:
Leave the room with computer at idle...come back to find it has reset and is stuck with the message HARD DISK ERROR.
CTRL-ALT-DEL...reboots into W7
Mouse and keyboard are not working at all - cannot log in...
hold power button down on front of box and W7 says shutting down...
reset again...and everything appears normal.
So far it looks like it would actually be the hard drive. Even though this is a brand new hard drive and the one that I was using before worked fine for having the system drive in an external dock.

Figured it out...
it was a slightly loose eSATA connection...ridiculous...I am teh dumbass...
I think it may have happened when the cat was screwing around back there and probably stepped on it or something. The connection doesn't really snap in very well...Going to have to buy one of the better cables like I have for my other drive but for now things are not hanging all weird.

Has anyone done this?
Probably not, because changing the desktop to a solid background color will add 30 seconds to the login process:

Speaking of 30 second delays, whenever I would go into my download folder, after a fresh reboot, it would take about 30 seconds to display the folder contents. Turns out my downloads folder was optimized for Videos! I set it to general, and now it opens immediately. I cant believe I've lived with this since October. Luckily I don't reboot too often.

Ah....
New 64-bit W7 drivers were released 2 months ago...although still beta hopefully they will work well...must have had alpha drivers before now...
Take this thing out of the case, and stick it up your nose. Then get your ass an X48, P45, or some other Intel chipset based board. (or an i7 and x58) Then, get your ass to Mars!

On a side note, Gigabyte UDX-XXXX boards are great, ASUS of course makes excellent Intel base boards. I'm running an EVGA uATX i7 x58 board in my main system. It's quite nice, and I've enjoyed their NV based boards in the past, but they definitely aren't quite as stable as the Intels. I've run into this with a couple of my systems. (680i board in particular) You can usually make them stable, but it may or may not be worth the extra tweaking effort. You could try increasing voltages to various chipset functions. you know... give the red dragon a little more juice... keep it on the downlow though...

I'd say I'm a power user. I'd also say I like to commence the jigglin' (Aero Shake)
