Morphine (Very easy listening, bedtime music)
Botch (some good local hardcore, unfortunately they broke up)
Candiria (I've been lovin' this band for some time now)
Converge (wildly hard)
Norma Jean (hardcore, fairly straight forward)
Porcupine Tree (very melodic, easy listening)
Shadows Fall (oldschool heavy style)
Cave In (Latest 2 discs "Jupiter and Antenna" indeed are joyous)
Shai Hulud (more crazywazy hardcore)

Damn dude - I haven't heard of a lot of those bands. How do you keep your ear to the scene so well? Just downloading random stuff and trying it out, or talking to people, or reading about it, or...???

What p2p you using these days (anyone)? Certainly not WinMX? I use Kazaa Lite if anything, but not too often. Also a program called Soul Seek even more occasionally.

NNTP if I feel like downloading the whole group (not with this connexion fo sho!).

I have indeed continued the use of good ol' WinMX (McNevin I believe is still pumping pure WinMX). Kazaa-lite bugs the crap out of me for some reason, and I haven't found another one that I like yet. WinMX still seems to be the best tool for me, I have a list of servers that I connect to that always seems to have what I need (not to mention some of the cool people on my hotlist). I mainly enjoy the simple UI and the fact that you can connect to lots-o-servers at once, as well as the WinMX network (rarely do I find what I'm looking for on the WinMX network, I merely use their client and SOMETIMES their network to find what I want)

Bos has got the picks for music this holiday season, especially WillHaven and Candiria for all the hardcore fans....
Lately I've been on a punk kick: Unseen; Anti-flag; Strike Anywhere;
No Use For a Name; and any old AFI stuff, the new NOFX disc; and the "Punk goes Pop" disc is fun listening (check out the Pink coversong!)
there's a song called "jihad" by Kovenant that is killer hardcore (their other stuff is too medival-goth for my likes) and old Sepultura has returned to favor.
On the techno tip I've been spinning Masters at Work; 2 Many DJs (wow); Cornelius; Hardknox; and Paul Oakenfold....I know some folks here who dug the rave scene.....

of note: Public Enemy's Revolverlution and Michael Franti w/Spearhead

I really like the Jack Johnson cd. I think it is a fine sophomoric effort.

Did you know that the Deftones recorded that album in Belltown? They lived in the Fountain Court complex right across from my building....crazy eh?
I really hate MetalLicka (Metallica) and wouldn't piss on Lars if he were on fire (unless of course my piss was gasoline, then I would). They are the best example of sell-out, overpriced, don't give a crap attitude that so many musicians buy into after "making it."
Haven't listened to the new Staind disc, but the old lady has a friend who used to hang with them in Boston area before they went big time - why that is important is beyond me.....
I was really let down by Jack's sophmore effort, but maybe it was because his debut was so perfect that I had my expectations too high. McNevin intro'd me to the Jackster (seems so long ago....)

There is an Alkai show coming up at the new Pheonix. We checked that club out a few weekends ago and it is a very nice joint. Really looking fwd to that show.

Ugly Duckling "Journey to Anywhere" (their second album); nice beats and cartoonish lyrics with a guest appearance by People Under The Stairs

DJ Shadow "Diminishing Returns" I'm sorry to say that I picked up a bootleg copy of his recent gig on BBC (sorry because I shoulda downloaded it, but very happy that I have it); first disc is all calssic hiphop and the second disc is all early 70's California psychedelic poprock (it explodes in your mouth)

I looooove these guys... Nothing beats kickin back listening to their stuff on a rainy day... If you've never heard of them or their stuff, they're sort of jazz with a electronica/turntablism influence... and they're on Ninja Tune, so that should give you a rough idea of where they're coming from.

Gangstarr - The Ownerz
SKILLZ!.... I've never been a huge gangstarr fan, but their new stuff is hot... SKILLZ!

Black Eyed Peas - Elephunk
A bit more lighthanded than the gangstarr stuff... kind of a clubby hiphop feel.

all worth picking up.

Speaking of mellow vibes, what ever happend to Kruder & Dorfmeister? Their "K&D Sessions" is the best low-vibe mix ever, but they've been MIA since Kruder started that Peace Orchestra group.

Picked up a Tito Puente re-issue to wooo wooo the lady to; nice mamba action if you can handle it.

And got the new Plump DJs "Eargasm" album; this is good bumping material.

G: Supposedly "Man with a movie camera" was composed as a soundtrack to some old school (1920's?) silent russian film. I think that's what's on the DVD. I must peep that sometime. Ah... how I would love to go to yellow this weekend... unfortunately I'm headin home next wednesday, and my budget is in super crunch mode.... Let's definitely hit up the parties in august though.

If you dig prefuse73 then you'll dig the new stuff. If you've never heard of him, his style is like hip-hop mixed with quirky IDM. Meticulously cut up and assembled samples and beats.

I haven't had a chance to really absorb both albums, but the initial impression I get is that he's a master of eclectic chill out mixes. Styles ranging from straight up jazz to hip hop to latin beats. Certainly worth checking out.

Speaking of Kruder Dorfmeister.... ever heard anything from Tosca? Read a bit about it (Dorfmeister's side project...), haven't heard anything yet...

I listen to Cinematic Orchestra and K&D all the time when I'm working. Keeps me happy while I'm at it. Trouble with stealing stuff all the time with Kazaa is that you don't get much info with the tracks. I love K&D's 'Fuck Dub' (starting with the name....) that purports to be by Tosca too.

Other favs are Fourtet, LTJ Bukem, Zero 7, Thievery Corporation, and St Germain. I'm liking Blue States too.

Ocean: Big fan of LTJ Bukem's "Logical Progression" comp. Picked it up years ago without know anything about him and was immediately hooked on his brand of D&B. Saw a showcase concert for his label once in NYC which was amazing. Too bad I missed him when he swung through Tokyo recently...
